  • - 1 big potato chopped
  • - 1 tsp garam masala
  • - 1 tsp chilli powder
  • - 1 tsp coriander powder
  • - 1 tsp Kitchen King masala
  • - ΒΌ tsp turmeric powder
  • - Salt to taste
  • - 2 cups water

Equipment

  • 1 pressure cooker

Method

  1. Soak the whole masoor dal for 3 hours or overnight. Drain and keep aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Add cinnamon, cardamom, bay leaf, cloves and jeera.
  3. Add the sliced onions and fry well. Add green chillies and ginger-garlic paste and cook really well.
  4. Add the sliced tomato and fry everything well.
  5. Add garam masala, chilli powder, coriander powder, Kitchen King masala, turmeric and salt. Fry until the raw smell of the masalas goes.
  6. Add the chopped potato and mix well.
  7. Add the drained masoor dal, 2 cups water and the soaked basmati rice. Mix well.
  8. Close the cooker and pressure cook for 2 whistles.
  9. Remove from the flame and let the pressure release naturally. Serve hot with raita.

Notes

Soak the dal well so it cooks soft along with the rice.
Let the pressure release naturally for fluffy rice.
