How to Make Eggless Dora Pancakes

These pancakes come together in minutes β€” the key is getting the batter consistency right!

Sieve the maida, sugar powder, milk powder and baking soda together into a bowl. Sieving is important β€” it removes any lumps and makes the pancakes lighter and fluffier.

Mix everything together well. Now add the milk and honey. Mix into a smooth batter with no lumps β€” this is important! Lumpy batter gives uneven pancakes. Take your time and mix until completely smooth.

The batter should have a ribbon consistency β€” when you lift the ladle the batter should fall in a smooth ribbon. If the batter feels too thick add 2 tbsp more milk and mix again.

Heat a pan on low to medium flame and lightly brush with oil. Don’t use too much oil β€” just a light brush is enough.

Pour the batter using a ladle β€” one ladle per pancake. Cook on simmer for about 2 minutes. You’ll know it’s ready to flip when only a few bubbles appear on the surface β€” not too many, just a few. That’s the sign!

Flip gently and cook for 1 more minute. The backside will turn beautifully golden. 😍

Add Nutella or chocolate spread between two pancakes, cut and serve hot! πŸ₯žπŸ€

Soft, fluffy and absolutely irresistible!

Notes

Pro Tips for the Softest Fluffiest Pancakes

  • Sieve all dry ingredients β€” this is non negotiable! Sieving removes lumps and makes the pancakes significantly lighter and fluffier.
  • No lumps in the batter β€” mix until completely smooth. Lumpy batter = uneven pancakes. Take your time with this step.
  • Ribbon consistency is key β€” the batter should fall in a smooth ribbon from the ladle. Too thick = dense pancakes. Too thin = flat pancakes. Adjust with milk if needed.
  • Cook on simmer β€” not high flame! Low to medium heat gives soft fluffy pancakes. High heat burns the outside before the inside is cooked.
  • Flip only when few bubbles appear β€” don’t flip too early. Wait for those few bubbles on the surface β€” that’s the signal the pancake is ready! 😊
  • Light oil brush only β€” too much oil makes the pancakes greasy. Just a light brush on the pan is enough.
  • Serve immediately β€” pancakes are softest and fluffiest when eaten hot right off the pan! 🀍

What to Serve With Dora Pancakes

The classic combination is Nutella or chocolate spread sandwiched between two pancakes β€” cut and serve! 🍫

That’s how my kids love it β€” two pancakes with chocolate spread in the middle, cut into halves or quarters. So cute and so delicious! 🀍

You can also serve with:

  • Homemade chocolate spread β€” my own recipe coming soon! 😍
  • Fresh fruits on the side β€” banana, strawberry, mango
  • A drizzle of honey on top 🍯
  • Maple syrup
  • Plain with a glass of cold milk for kids

For snack box β€” pack two pancakes with chocolate spread between them. Stays soft and delicious for hours! 🍱

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are these called Dora pancakes?
Dora pancakes are named after the popular cartoon character Doraemon β€” his favourite food is dorayaki which are Japanese pancakes filled with sweet filling. These soft round pancakes filled with chocolate spread look just like them β€” and kids absolutely love the connection! πŸ˜„

Can I use whole wheat flour instead of maida?
Yes β€” replace half the maida with whole wheat flour for a slightly healthier version. The pancakes will be slightly denser but still delicious. For the lightest fluffiest result use maida as the recipe says.

Why use milk powder?
Milk powder adds richness, softness and a beautiful flavour to the pancakes. It’s what makes these eggless pancakes so incredibly soft β€” don’t skip it!

Can I skip the honey?
Honey adds natural sweetness and keeps the pancakes moist. You can replace with sugar but honey gives a better flavour and texture. For babies under 1 year skip honey and use sugar instead.

How do I know when to flip the pancake?
Wait until only a few bubbles appear on the surface of the pancake .. even if not many it’s ok..wait for few bubbles . That’s the signal! Flip gently and cook for 1 more minute until the back is golden. 😊

Can I make the batter ahead of time?
You can make the batter and store in the fridge for up to a few hours. Mix well before using as the batter may thicken slightly β€” add a splash of milk if needed.

A Note From My Kitchen 🀍

There is something so joyful about watching your kids eat something you made with love β€” and ask for more.

These Dora pancakes do that every single time. πŸ˜„πŸ€

My kids’ faces when they see the chocolate spread being sandwiched between the soft fluffy pancakes β€” that expression is worth every minute in the kitchen.

I make my own homemade Nutella style chocolate spread for these β€” that recipe is coming very soon to this blog! Because store bought is good but homemade is always better. 😍

Until then β€” use your favourite chocolate spread and watch the magic happen. πŸ₯žπŸ«πŸ€

Simple ingredients. 10 minutes. The happiest kids at the table.

That’s what cooking is all about. 🀍
